START POURING THAT MARTINI

Patti LuPone has hit the road with her new tour Don’t Monkey with Broadway, which played Provincetown last month before heading to California. If you’re in the L.A./Orange County area, that means in just under two weeks, July 15, 2023 at 8pm, the three-time Tony Award winner La LuPone is coming to the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall to explore, through indelible interpretations of classic Broadway show tunes by the likes of Richard Rodgers, Lorenz Hart, Jule Styne, Stephen Schwartz, Charles Strouse, Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, Cole Porter and Irving Berlin, how her life-long love affair with Broadway began and her concern for what the Great White Way is becoming today (Watch out!). Tickets are also hitting the road, so get’ em fast.

Patti will be traveling to each of her concerts from Atlanta, Georgia, where she’s just begun filming her role in the new Marvel TV series Agatha: Coven of Chaos, Marvel’s spin-off of their hit series Wandavision. She built a dazzling Broadway career as a leading lady in shows such as EvitaSweeney ToddGypsy and Les Misérables — she won her first Olivier Award for her work in The Cradle Will Rock and her second for the 2019 London revival of Company. Her third Tony was also for Company. I was lucky enough to catch her during the run; her jaded “Joanne” commanded her every moment on stage, never missing a beat or wry expression. LuPone’s martini-induced lament to those who let life pass them by in “Ladies Who Lunch” brought down the house. Patti LuPone is a true living legend who will definitely capture the true essence of classic Broadway.
