SHORES ‘NUFF
Texas-born playwright Del Shores, best known for his romp Sordid Lives (the hilarious play and movie that also introduced us to Leslie Jordan) is coming to the Celebration Theatre with the West Coast premiere of his one-man show, Six Characters in Search of a Play. In this 90-minute cavalcade of characters, Shores will introduce you to six one-of-a-kind people that he has met in real life but whom haven’t quite made it into one of his plays, films or TV shows. What you’ll get is the tales behind how he amassed these eccentrics and portrayals of his hilarious, off-the-rails encounters with them.
Get ready for “Yvonne,” the anti-vegetarian Dallas waitress; “Sarah,” a Trump-hating elderly actress with an inhaler in one hand and a cigarette in the other; “Jimmy Ray,” the evolving, Magic Mike-loving latent Georgia redneck; “Loraine,” the once-brilliant drama teacher who has lost her damn mind and is now obsessed with porn; “Marsha,” the monkey-hating lesbian with COPD; and “Aunt Bobby Sue,” the racist Republican with a heart of gold. The show, which plays Mondays and Tuesdays through March 27, is directed by is Emerson Collins, producer, director and actor best known for four seasons of Bravo’s The People’s Couch.
