IN THE BOOM BOOM ZOOM ZOOM ROOM
It’s coming this Saturday. And so should you. Normally the hottest ticket in New York, Broadway Bares, the fundraiser in which hunky performers pull out their stops to aid Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, is streaming all over your personal screens this year. The in-person 30th anniversary celebration has moved to 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but all those hot striptease acts are boning up to enter your living rooms starting at 9:30 EST on August 1, 2020. Along with new performances that make social distancing sexy, you will get favorite numbers from years past along with new appearances by special celebrity guests.
And the stream is free, so kindly make donations — every little bit helps. The bucks will help those across the country affected by HIV/AIDS, COVID-19 and other critical illnesses receive healthy meals, lifesaving medication, emergency financial assistance, housing, counseling and more. Last year, Broadway Bares took fans on a romp around the world at Broadway Bares: Take Off. The tantalizing twist on travel raised a record-breaking $2,006,192. The 29 editions of Broadway Bares have raised more than $21.2 million for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
“We’re so excited to bring the heat of Broadway Bares to screens around the world for the first time with Broadway Bares: Zoom In,” Bares creator and Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell said. “This year’s performers have gone full-out in both their show-stopping dance moves and desire to make a difference. You’ve got to Zoom In because it’s sure to make your laptop tingle and your cell phone vibrate!”
See? I’m not the only one innuendo-ing.
Mitchell appears in the show with special guest appearances by Nick Adams, Charles Busch, Lea DeLaria, J. Harrison Ghee, Nathan Lee Graham, Debbie Shapiro Gravitte, Jane Krakowski, Nathan Lane, Beth Leavel, Judith Light, Andrew Lippa, Lesli Margherita, Angie Schworer, Marc Shaiman, Miriam Shor, Christopher Sieber, Wesley Taylor and more.
Zoom In can be watched at broadwaycares.org/bares, on Broadway Cares’ YouTube channel, broadwaybares.com and on streaming media partners BroadwayWorld.com, iHeartRadioBroadway.com, Playbill.com, TheaterMania.com and the Pride Media family of sites including Advocate.com and Out.com.
