MEET THE WIZARD OF ART, CAREY FOX.
IS HE THE ART WORLD’S BEST KEPT SECRET?
Alien Head Acrylic on Canvas, 36" x 36"
Spending most of his professional career living under the radar right here in Sherman Oaks, lucky Angelenos may be in the presence of the Art World’s Best Kept Secret. Carey Fox, an Abstract Expressionist, whose Acrylic Paintings on canvas consist mostly of non-figurative abstracts that vary in size from small to medium to very large works of Art. Size wise, think Picasso’s Guernica.
The Transition Acrylic on Canvas, 48 1/4" x 72"
From his outdoor studio nestled high in the hills of Sherman Oaks and looking out onto the floor of the San Fernando Valley below, Fox prefers to paint under the stars in what he describes as the magic hours of evening and darkness. There you will find him painting at all hours of the night, with some sessions lasting until the sun rises over the mountain ranges to the East.
Fukushima Daiichi Acrylic on Canvas, 30" x 40"
Known among his colleagues and friends as the King of Fling, this moniker given in reference to one of his signature techniques where he hurls paints wildly at his canvases in a flinging motion. Only when Mr. Fox executes his technique, he’s like a sniper who stalks his target’s range through cross-hairs and then draws down on it with pin point accuracy. Mind you, if you were to put aside all those Grade School Art Classes that we’re all familiar with, then Fox would have to be identified as basically a self-taught master of his own palette.
Particles In Collision Acrylic on Canvas, 48" x 48"
It’s quite a schlep to the next planet, but that fact has never stopped Fox from painting his out-of-this-world masterpieces. And the proof can be seen in his brilliant displays of color, shapes, light, feelings and textures. As one views Fox’s use of paints, it’s like entering an uncharted 10-dimensional universe. He’s a master at pushing static forms into seemingly undulating movements .
Redemption Acrylic on Canvas, 30" x 40"
Early on in Fox’s career he made a conscious decision to shun the distractions of the Art World and chose instead to focus his time and energy on his own art and paintings. Ironically, due to his success to remain out of the spotlight, his works have gone largely unrecognized with little to no notoriety. Past acquisitions of his works have been made mostly by corporate and business collections, celebrities, private collectors along with some colleagues, close friends and family.
THREE WISE ONES Acrylic on Canvas, 43" x 71 3/4" Triptych, 3 panel Changing Screen
Having been deeply affected by the pandemic and all the chaos of the past few years, Fox is making a change with regards to his overall exposure and availability. And now he finds himself moving in a direction to open up his world and works of art to the public. For more info, call 818 221 7759.
AI KILLS Acrylic on Canvas, 39 1/2" x 39 1/2"
Fox’s work manipulates our senses, while engaging our imagination to go beyond the beyond of familiarity and into another world of artistic sensitivity. He dares the viewer to drop their traditional inclinations and occupy a new space in artistic expressionism.
Simply said, Fox’s work is Art de Triumph.
Mr. Fox is also a character actor, and has appeared with such film stars as George C. Scott, Max Von Sydow, Christopher Plummer, Martin Sheen, John Malkovich and Dennis Quaid. In his most recent effort, Mr. Fox is the emotionally charged character Van in a thought provoking production of Darrell Phillip Szenasi’s new play, Filthy Rags.
Also a veteran of Music, Mr. Fox Fronts his own Rock Band (CAREY FOX and DARK MATTER) and has several original music videos on Youtube. Fox has also appeared and performed in other music videos with such artists as Usher, Cypress Hill, Akon, The Outlaws.
