The cannabis industry is booming at the moment and thanks to legalization, many people are starting to embrace a new outlook on cannabis and use it for medical and recreational use. The Big Lebowski is a 1998 Comedy/Crime film starring Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, and Steve Buscemi. The film was directed by Ethan and Joel Coen and follows two men who mistakenly urinate on the rug of a millionaire after mistaking him for someone else with the same name. Once they realize their error, they attempt to compensate Lebowski (the millionaire) for the rug and in the process, these men find themselves entangled in a kidnapping case. This movie is considered a stoner comedy and the character “The dude”, played by Jeff Bridges is considered the “best stoner in the history of film”. Overall, this movie is rated as one of the top 10 stoner movies ever made so you should check it out.

Inherent Vice

Inherent Vice is a 2014 Mystery/Crime film directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and stars Joaquin Phoenix, Katherine Waterson, and Owen Wilson. The film is about Doc, who is a private investigator who gets a visit from his former love interest who is under the suspicion that someone is trying to institutionalize him. Doc then proceeds to take on the case hoping that he can solve it. This movie is described as something that corrupts the hippie dream and even has hints of comedy. Stoners will enjoy this film because Doc himself is a stoner.

Under the Silver Lake

Next, we have the 2018 film “Under the Silver Lake” directed by David Robert Mitchell and stars Andrew Garfield, Riley Keough, and Topher Grace. The film follows Sam who is an unhappy 33-year-old man who stumbles across Sarah who is a mysterious woman who happens to be hanging around the swimming pool in his apartment building. Sarah vanishes and Sam decides to embark on a quest around Los Angeles to solve the mystery of her disappearance. On his journey, he is met with mystery, scandal, and conspiracy which makes for an interesting watch especially for cannabis enthusiasts because this film is considered a “stoner cult hit”.

Saving Grace

Saving Grace is a comedy/crime film released in the year 2000 and was directed by Nigel Cole. The film stars Brenda Blethyn, Martin Clunes, and Craig Ferguson and is about a woman named Grace who loses her husband after he jumps out of a plane without a parachute. He leaves Grace with a manor and a mountain of debt that he has been accumulating secretly. Now there are repossessors and creditors after Grace and she could potentially lose everything so she decides to get creative after being asked to care for an ailing marijuana plant.

Up in smoke

Up in Smoke is a 1978 stoner comedy starring legendary stoner Tommy Chong as well as Cheech Marin. This film was directed by Tommy Chong himself and Lou Adler and follows an unemployed stoner and amateur drummer Anthony (Tommy)   as he leaves his strict parents and embarks on a road trip where he meets his soulmate, Pedro (Cheech). The two are very quickly arrested for marijuana possession but luckily get released due to a technicality. They then continue their road trip adventure and end up competing in a rock band competition. This film is funny, fun, and great entertainment for stoners who will love the cannabis theme throughout the entire film.
