Dave Brubeck Centennial Celebration
With the Clayton Hamilton  Jazz  Orchestra,
The Brubeck Brothers Quartet, and Dianne Reeves at Segerstrom Feb. 4

2020 marked the Centennial Year of jazz giant Dave Brubeck. Celebrating his life and legacy, Dave’s sons Chris and Dan Brubeck, who performed and recorded with their father since the 1970s, have been presenting a centennial celebration with their Brubeck Brothers Quartet, a dynamic group which includes guitarist Mike DeMicco and pianist Chuck  Lamb.

But wait until you see what Segerstrom Center for the Arts has cooked up to celebrate the centennial of this most influential figure in the history of jazz, the legendary pianist and composer Dave Brubeck, by presenting a Dave Brubeck Centennial Celebration on Friday, February 4, 2022, at  7:30pm  at Segerstrom Hall. The all-star lineup of talent joining the Brubeck Brothers to pay tribute includes the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra and five-time GRAMMY winning vocalist Dianne Reeves, the reigning diva of jazz who was designated as a Jazz Master by the National Endowment for the Arts.

It’s all about the music and the camaraderie with Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra. In addition to technical instrumental prowess and excellent jazzmanship, the primary criteria for choosing band members is dedication. The love of the music and the love of the ‘band-family’ must be the motivation and anyone who thinks this is just a gig need not apply. A number of renowned jazz artists have been a part of this musical family including George Bohanon, Oscar Brashear, Bobby Bryant, Al McKibbon, Charles Owens, Andy Simpkins, Gerald Wiggins, Ricky Woodard, and Snooky Young.

With her powerful voice, bold dramatic flair, and penchant for spontaneity, Dianne Reeves inhabits every story she sings, taking mesmerized audiences along for the ride. A supremely talented vocalist and hypnotizing storyteller, Reeves has been hailed as “the most admired jazz diva since the heyday of Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, and Billie Holiday” by The New York Times.
