GET YOURSELF SOME HAPPY
So, which Lillias White is your favorite? Is it the bluesy, searching, achy soul singer? The sassy sweetheart of standards? The darling diva of Broadway showtunes? The infectious raging gospel optimism? Well, you get all that and more when she appears with SiriusXM Radio star Seth Rudetsky, on Thursday, March 30, 2023, 7 pm, in The Wallis’ Bram Goldsmith Theater (rescheduled from 2022). White (The Life, Chicago, How To Succeed’¦, Dreamgirls, and Barnum) takes a day off from her starring role on Broadway as Missus Hermes in the Tony Award-winning smash hit Hadestown to make her Wallis debut. The gregarious, giving, gadfly Rudetsky is a pro at uplifting, charming, funny and down-to-earth impromptu cabarets accompanying Broadway greats ’” extemporaneously chatting it up with they of the gargantuan personalities and sublime powerhouse voices.
I hope she offers a tune or two from her latest album (her first studio album actually), Get Yourself Some Happy. It’s a wonder. White knows how to deliver rhythm and soul without resorting to those yodeling pyrotechnic vocals that keep so many artists from Broadway earthbound. If you don’t get some happy all up in your stuff when you see this concert (which WILL sell out), then you ain’t got a pulse. The Wallis evening promises a seamless mix of intimate behind-the-scenes stories prompted by funny, insightful, and revealing questions from Rudetsky (on piano), and music from White’s stellar Broadway and television career.
