Well, we all know it happens. For whatever reasons, a show flops on Broadway, yet leaves behind a magical score. I suppose the producers imagined throngs of KPOP lovers would keep the show running for years, but book problems (and more) kept the insanely infectious score earthbound. I saw one of the final performances of KPOP just before the musical’s closure was announced, and while show may not have resonated, I LOVED LOVED LOVED the score.

Kevin Woo and the cast of KPOP

Fortunately, Sony Masterworks Broadway — which did amazing work with the Matilda Soundtrack and the New Broadway Cast recording of Funny Girl — has come to the rescue again by recording an Original Broadway Cast Album of KPOP. So even if you can’t see the fun boyband choreography and fanciful costumes, you’ll forever get the songs by Max Vernon and chart-topping Korean songstress and show lead Luna performed by a star-studded cast of performers from the world of K-pop, including BoHyung  (from the K-pop group SPICA and half of the duo KEEMBO), Min  (from the K-pop group Miss A), Kevin Woo  (from the K-pop group U-KISS), and more.

Luna

Today, another track debuts before the album’s digital release on Monday, May 8 and on CD Friday, May 12, 2023. “Super Star” premieres today alongside an accompanying video featuring Luna. The song captures the show’s exhilarating energy of a stadium concert with pulse-pounding new music. The original cast includes  Julia Abueva, BoHyung,  Major Curda,  Jinwoo Jung,  Jiho Kang,  Amy Keum,  James Kho,  Marina Kondo, Eddy Lee,  Joshua Lee, Jully Lee,  Lina Rose Lee,  Timothy H. Lee,  Abraham Lim,  Kate Mina Lin,  Aubie Merrylees, Min,  Patrick Park, Kevin Woo,  Zachary Noah Piser,  and  John Yi.
