HAPPINESS IS JUST A THING CALLED LILLIAS
So, which Lillias White is your favorite? Is it the bluesy, searching, achy soul singer? The sassy sweetheart of standards? The darling diva of Broadway showtunes? The infectious raging gospel optimism? Well, you get all that and more on her new CD, Get Yourself Some Happy!, out now from Old Mill Road Recording. With super-fun arrangements by Timothy Graphenreed, Benjamin Lerner, and Joshua Sherman that are pure homage to classic albums from the 60s and 70s, White is on fire bursting happiness all over you with awesomely strong vocals from Top Ten, Broadway, Soundtracks, and more. And can you believe that this is her first solo studio album. Wha’ the…?
What I appreciate most here is that White knows how to deliver rhythm and soul without resorting to those yodeling pyrotechnic vocals that keep so many artists from Broadway earthbound when they release solo ventures. If you don’t get some happy all up in your stuff, then you ain’t got a pulse. This chick definitely earns her title’s exclamation point.
