There was a time when the online entertainment trend and social media seemed to be overtaking the more traditional forms of entertainment. Many argued that we would see the demise of theatre, casinos, cinema, and tourism. This has, however, not been the case and, instead, the internet and modern tech have simply made the following forms of entertainment more widespread and popular than ever before.

The Theatre

The pandemic showed what was possible concerning taking the theatre online and it is a trend that has not stopped developing. There was an initial drop in revenue across the entertainment arts, but the available, internet-connected technology has seen a resurgence in the arts and online or virtual theatre has become an entirely separate and profitable arm of the arts, stage, and theatre. There are indeed certain shows or acts that require a live concert, but the advancement of virtual and interactive viewing technology has even seen interactive pantomime receive a great response and be performed successfully online.

The Casino

There have been online casinos since the internet was invented, but the last 5 years or so have seen this form of entertainment become one of the fastest-growing and most profitable pastimes online. The online slots have arguably been the biggest winners and almost all modern slot machines and games are online, including those in land-based, brick-and-mortar casinos. The variety of games and the convenience of playing wherever you are has seen huge demand for these games and the online casino industry is now booming.

Sport

Live sport of all sorts, shapes, and sizes is now available to stream online and this has entirely changed the face of our modern entertainment. Some of the biggest sports in America, such as MLB (Major league baseball) and MLS (Major League Soccer), have partnered with Apple TV and will now live stream all their games. Thus, allowing fans of all teams to be able to watch and follow their favorite players and teams.

Virtual Tourism

Perhaps the real estate sector provided the precursor for modern-day tourism to go online and viral. Whatever the impetus, being able to see some of the most historic and culturally important sites in the world is now possible via a set of VR goggles or simply by taking a 360-degrees virtual tour on your desktop. Site-sensitive tourism, where there is no damage done to sensitive historical sites, such as Machu Picchu (Peru) or the Great Smokey Mountain National Park (USA), has always been one of the dilemmas. Yes, the financial gain from tourism is vital for numerous economies around the world, but it was unsustainable. The virtual tour can solve this and more people will be able to see and visit these sites for a fraction of the cost and with no damage caused.

Not only have these forms of entertainment moved online, but the advertisement, marketing, and promotion of this entertainment is also predominantly an online affair, serving to change the face of modern entertainment.
