Superstar American soprano Renée Fleming will make her La Jolla Music Society debut with LJMS’ SummerFest Music Director, internationally acclaimed pianist Inon Barnatan, on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at 8 PM in the gorgeous Baker-Baum Concert Hall. See why Stage and Cinema calls her concert “sublime storytelling in song.” She will offer selections by both romantic, classical and contemporary composers, along with the jewel standard, “All the Things You Are.” (See program below.) At 481 seats, this is one of the most intimate halls she’ll perform in as part of her recital tour.

With her sumptuous voice, consummate artistry, and compelling stage presence, she presents the San Diego premiere of an all-new program inspired by her 2022 GRAMMY Award-winning album, Voice of Nature: the Anthropocene. This multimedia performance explores nature as both inspiration to and victim of humanity.

For the performance’s second half, the National Geographic Society provides an original video, with awe-inspiring glimpses at the creatures, plants, and landscapes of our planet to accompany the musical selections. The footage pairs with selections by Handel and Rachmaninoff, and contemporary composers Maria Schneider, Nico Muhly, Kevin Puts (The Hours), Björk, and Howard Shore (The Lord of the Rings  film scores).

On Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 6, join Fleming and a panel of local experts for Music and the Mind, her ongoing series that explores the power of music as it relates to health and the brain. She invites experts around the country to present their research and discuss their experience as part of her presentations. Admittance is free, but advance registration is required at  The Conrad.
