HELL-O AGAIN!

Who knew a trip to the underworld could be so much fun? Epic, touching, poetic, and tragic — and winner of the 2019 Tony Award for Best Musical — this new twist on two classic Greek myths  is a rousing adventure from start to finish. Now, Hadestown is returning to Broadway’s Walter Kerr Theatre on Thursday, September 2, 2021. This truly original work NOT based on a movie is relevant to our modern age with inventive staging and gorgeous design.

Tickets are now available exclusively for American Express ® Card Members through Tuesday, June 8 at 9:59 AM ET at Hadestown. Fans will have priority access to tickets via the “Songbird First Access Program,” beginning Tuesday, June 8 at 10 AM ET; to sign up, visit Hadestown. Then, tickets are available to the general public Friday, June 11 at 10 AM ET via Seatgeek.

For those who can’t make it to NYC, the North American tour kicks off on Friday, October 15, 2021 at Washington D.C.’s Kennedy Center for a three-week engagement, with over 30 cities to follow. Prior to D.C., the tour has a week-long stop at Greenville, South Carolina’s Peace Center October 5-10. For tour info, visit Hadestown Tour. And for those who need more Hadestown, you have to get If The Fates Allow: A Hadestown Holiday Album,  which is one of the only Xmas CDs I can play year-round.

The two intertwining love stories in Hadestown ’” that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone ’” invite audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Based on her concept album, Anaïs Mitchell’s beguiling melodies and Rachel Chavkin’s poetic imagination pit industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love. Performed by a vibrant ensemble of actors, dancers, and singers, Hadestown  delivers a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience.

The show originated as Mitchell’s indie theater project that toured Vermont which she then turned into an acclaimed album. With Chavkin, her artistic collaborator, Hadestown has been transformed into a genre-defying new musical that blends modern American folk music with New Orleans-inspired jazz to reimagine a sweeping ancient tale.

The creative team features Tony Award winner  Rachel Hauck  (set design), Michael Krass  (costume design), two-time Tony Award winner  Bradley King  (lighting design), Tony Award winners  Nevin Steinberg  and  Jessica Paz (sound design),  David Neumann  (choreography),  Liam Robinson  (music direction and vocal arrangements), Tony Award winners  Michael Chorney  and  Todd Sickafoose  (arrangements and orchestrations),  Ken Cerniglia  (dramaturgy), and  Stewart/Whitley  (casting).
