THEY RISE AGAIN
Red Eye 2 Tokyo, founded by composer and multi-instrumentalist Shih-Wei Wu, will return to the stage for the first time after the pandemic shut down to bring you some rocking J-traditional Jazz fusion sound on Saturday April 1, 2023 at 8 at Boston Court in Pasadena (for tickets, visit Boston Court). There will be taiko and drum set battles, lush piano runs, solid bass lines, killer shamisen solos, and the smoking hot sound of the zen shakuhachi flute. This action-packed evening of adventurous music blends the dynamic sounds of Japanese folk instruments with jazz. Ranging from the meditative Zen flute solo to the taiko/drum kit battle, the ensemble continues to create new sonic expression that challenges and honors their individual cultures and traditions. Shih-wei (pronounced SHE-way) assembled the band of Angeleno jazzers and Japanese instrumental musicians to explore the raw energy of live Japanese folk performance through American improvised music. Red Eye 2 Tokyo (RE2T) is Peter Buck on drums, Ryan Rost on bass, Danny Sanchez on keys, Mike Penny on Tsugaru shamisen, and Shih-wei on taiko, shakuhachi, and shinobue. |
