HOW INTERIOR DESIGNERS USE SEEDANCE 2.0 TO WALK CLIENTS THROUGH UNBUILT SPACES
I do residential interior design, mostly full home renovations and the occasional new build collaboration with a couple of architects I work with regularly. The hardest part of this job has never really been the design decisions themselves, it’s getting a client to actually see the space I’m describing before it exists. I can talk about a room for twenty minutes, show them fabric swatches and a floor plan and a mood board, and still watch their eyes glaze over slightly because none of that adds up to a coherent picture of what the finished room will actually feel like to stand in.
Where Clients Get Stuck
The furniture placement problem
Clients consistently struggle with scale and placement in ways that surprise me, honestly, even after years of doing this. I’ll show a floor plan with furniture laid out to scale, and a client will still ask, during a walkthrough of the actual empty renovated space, whether the sofa is really going to fit where I’ve indicated. The floor plan was accurate. The client just couldn’t translate a two-dimensional drawing into a felt sense of the room, which is an extremely common gap and not any kind of failure on their part, it’s just how most people’s spatial reasoning works.
Fabric and finish decisions in isolation
We also make finish decisions somewhat piecemeal throughout a project, a paint color here, an upholstery fabric there, a rug chosen a few weeks before it’s meant to tie the whole room together. Clients often can’t picture how all of these individually approved choices will actually read as a cohesive room until everything is physically installed, at which point changing anything is expensive and disruptive in a way that changing a decision on paper never is.
Adding Motion to Renderings
I work with a rendering service for most projects, decent quality still renders built from our actual space plans and selected finishes. What I started doing on a recent whole-home renovation was taking those still renders and running them through Seedance 2.0 to get a short clip of gentle camera movement through the space, roughly simulating what walking from the entry into the main living area might actually feel like.
A living room that finally clicked
I had a client on that project who’d approved a floor plan, approved furniture placement on paper, approved every individual finish, and still seemed uneasy every time we discussed the main living space, without being able to articulate exactly why. I generated a short clip from our rendering showing movement through the room roughly following the path she’d actually walk from her front door. Watching it, she immediately said the sightline to the fireplace felt more blocked by the sofa’s proposed position than she’d realized from the flat floor plan, something that turned out to be completely accurate once we checked the actual angles. We shifted the sofa placement about eighteen inches, a change that would have been far more disruptive to catch after installation than at that stage.
Where results were less useful
I tried this on a kitchen renovation with a lot of cabinetry detail and specific hardware finishes, and honestly the results weren’t worth using. Fine detail work like cabinet hardware and precise material texture didn’t translate well, and I didn’t want to show a client something that might set inaccurate expectations about finish quality on a project where those exact details mattered enormously to the final cost and the client’s decision-making. I’ve learned to reserve this for big-picture spatial and flow questions, not for anything requiring fine detail accuracy.
Working This Into My Process
When I reach for it
I don’t do this for every project or every room. It’s specifically useful for larger, more complex spaces where flow between areas is a real design question, open-concept living areas, primary suites with adjoining spaces, anything where a client has expressed uncertainty that verbal explanation and static renderings haven’t fully resolved. For a straightforward guest bedroom with no complicated spatial relationships to communicate, I don’t bother, since a client’s rarely confused about a simple rectangular room with a bed against one wall.
Setting expectations clearly
I always tell clients explicitly that what they’re seeing is an approximation meant to communicate spatial flow, not a finished representation of exact colors, textures, or lighting conditions. Interior design decisions involve real money and real disappointment if expectations aren’t managed carefully, and I’d rather a client understand the limits of what they’re looking at than assume a rough clip is a preview of exactly how their finishes will look once installed.

What I’d Tell Other Designers
Use this specifically to resolve spatial and flow uncertainty, not as a substitute for accurate material and finish representation, which still belongs to your usual rendering process and, ideally, physical samples in a client’s hands before anything gets ordered. It’s genuinely helped me catch spatial issues earlier in a project timeline, when adjustments are cheap, rather than after installation, when they’re expensive and disruptive for everyone involved. That earlier catch has probably saved more than one project from a costly late-stage change, and for a business where client trust depends heavily on getting the big decisions right the first time, that alone has made it worth the modest extra time it takes to generate and review these clips before a major client presentation. I don’t think it’s changed how I design anything. It’s changed how confidently a client can say yes to a decision before we’re too far along to change it easily, and that confidence has turned out to matter more for the smoothness of a project than I initially expected it would.
