CRAPSHOOT! Or Why Al Voted for Trump: a love story
will open the Reykjavik International Fringe Festival

The Reykjavík Fringe Festival 2020 (RVK) is a festival unlike any other. While most festivals are having to experiment with purely virtual acts or cancel altogether, RVK is half online, half onstage. All shows in the livestream are free to watch, but artists will be accepting donations during the performance. Reykjavikian guests must purchase a festival wristband to attend local performances.

For the rest of the world, you can stay home and watch online the world movie premiere of CRAPSHOOT! Or Why Al Voted For Trump: A Love Story on Saturday July 4, 2020. CRAPSHOOT! is based on the award-winning solo show written and performed by the marvelous Todd Blakesley, who I have seen live in San Diego many times, including his stunning take on Truman Capote in Tru. It was due to Blakesley’s performance at the 2019 San Diego International Fringe that he won the Cultural Exchange Award, but sadly he had to cancel his trip to Iceland this year. Directed by Rhianna Basore, this digital version of the much-heralded live show has been retooled by the same creative team to fit the requirements of performing during the pandemic.

What’s it all about? Al Stone had never voted. Why bother? No one elected ever did him any good. But in 2016 he decided to roll the dice. His fateful decision sends him on a wild ride through the careening American Dream. CRAPSHOOT! probes the addictive appeal of President Trump through Al’s journey into the bizarre underbelly of politics and obsession. Will his love for Trump be his salvation … or destroy the world?

CRAPSHOOT! has been chosen to open Reykjavík Fringe’s Opening Party, which takes place at Hotel Hlemmur Square with light refreshments and Fringe entertainment: stand-up comedy, circus acts, cabaret and all sorts of pop-up events. RVK even opted to use Blakesley’s face for their poster this year!

For our Reykjavikian friends: Opnunarpartý hátíðarinnar Reykjavík Fringe fer fram á Hótel Hlemmi Square að venju og boðið verður upp á léttar veitingar og skemmtiatriði af jaðrinum.

Gestir geta átt von á uppistandi, sirkúsatriðum, kabarett og ýmsum pop-up uppákomum.

Partýið hefst kl 20, en þar á undan verður opnunarsýningu hátíðarinnar, CRAPSHOOT! Or Why Al Voted For Trump: A Love Story streymt á stórum skjá frá kl 19-20.

Aðgangur er ókeypis, en hátíðararmbönd á 1000 krónur verða seld á staðnum.
