SANTINO AND SETH

Get ready, kids. This Sunday, February 21, 2021 at 8 (LIVE!) and Monday at 3 (EST), the gregarious, gadfly Seth Rudetsky will have as his guest Santino Fontana. Seth — accompanying this Broadway great on the piano from his New York flat — will extemporaneously chat it up with this amazing performer, who will offer a range of songs. Tickets available at Seth Concert Series.

Almost ten years ago, Stage and Cinema — knowing that Mr. Fontana was at the start of an amazing career — interviewed the actor while he was in Sons of the Prophet Off-Broadway. (See our interview here.) Well, since then, he starred on Broadway as Michael Dorsey in the stage musical adaptation of the film Tootsie, for which he was awarded the 2019 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical. He was previously nominated for a Tony for his role as Prince Topher in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella on Broadway.

We talked with Fontana about originating the role of Tony in the Broadway production of Billy Elliot and the revival of The Importance of Being Earnest and Brighton Beach Memoirs. He has also appeared on Broadway in the revivals of Sunday in the Park with George, Hello, Dolly!, Moss Hart’s Act One and in the Encores series productions of 1776 and Kurt Vonnegut’s God Bless You Mr. Rosewater. He’s also the voice Prince Hans in the film Frozen and Frozen 2.
