Juneteenth Commemorates Freedom with
2nd Annual Celebration – Uplifting Voices of Marginalized Communities

We’re Not Free Until We’re All Free is a series of panels in celebration of Juneteenth to honor and uplift the voices of marginalized communities, recognizing that we all must be liberated in the fight for freedom. Created by Tyree Marshall and Celia Mandela Rivera in 2021, these panels serve as conversations amongst those voices by providing them space to speak on their experiences, needs, and hopes for the future.

“Freedom has never been inevitable for intersectionality or for many cultures in our country,” believes producer Tyree Marshall. “It’s imperative that we continue to have conversations around freedom, and that we listen when other cultures speak about their experiences of their existence. We will never be able to tell their truth unless we listen. I hope that when people tune into these conversations they reflect on their own lives and what role they play in the systems of oppression for other cultures and identities.”

Juneteenth is the longest running African-American holiday, celebrating freedom of enslaved people at the end of the Civil War in the United States. Although the Emancipation Proclamation became effective in 1863, it was not immediately enforceable in areas still under Confederate control. Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865, announcing that over 250,000 enslaved Black Americans were freed in the state. Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021.

Skylight Theatre Company is proud to present the 2nd annual celebration of Juneteenth. This year, events will include a panel series:
