Ever since cannabis movies went mainstream in the 1970s, stoner filmmakers have brought us groovy entertainment. Some of these titles have become cult classics, while others are lesser-known gems everyone should check out.

So, while browsing marijuana seeds for sale, check out these fun stoner flicks to add to your collection. Once you harvest your crop, grab your mates and get ready to laugh until your stomachs hurt.

1. Up in Smoke (1978)

Let’s take things back to the very beginning. Up in Smoke was a pioneer in cinema history. No movie had ever displayed cannabis use as much as in this film. Fans have a particularly fond memory of the “quarter pounder joint.”

Cheech and Chong starred in Up in Smoke in 1978 after the marijuana revolution of the ’60s and ’70s. It became an epic blockbuster that paved the road for other weed comedies.

The film spawned a trilogy that included Next Movie and Nice Dreams. If you have a day off, these are three of the best movies to watch high. The rest of Cheech and Chong’s flicks are classics every stoner will enjoy.

Speaking of Tommy Chong, he plays the recurring character of Leo in the TV series That 70’s Show. He also returns in the spinoff That 90’s Show. All eight seasons of the original were especially popular among stoner audiences as there were many nostalgic weed references.

2. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)

In 1971, Hunter S. Thompson published Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream. It’s a semi-autobiographical novel detailing the author’s experiences with cannabis, road trips, and exciting times.

Johnny Depp starred in the film adaptation in 1998. It features many scenes with stoner humor, psychedelic imagery, and lizard people in a casino. It’s a fan favorite bound to have you reeling with laughter after smoking the harvested buds from an order of weed seeds for sale in Arizona.

3. Good Mourning (2022)

This one’s for you if you’re a fan of pop-punk music, crazy adventures, and lots of weed. Machine Gun Kelly, an outspoken stoner musician, wrote and directed one of the best high movies to watch in 2022.

Good Mourning features plenty of classic cannabis humor and outrageous situations. There are funny marijuana references throughout, including bizarre scenes involving a broken urn, a talking lobster, and a foot-long joint.

Look out for notable appearances from Mod Sun, Avril Lavigne, Megan Fox, and Dove Cameron. The film is a fun, light-hearted ride from start to finish, bound to gather a cult following in the future. We’re hopeful Machine Gun Kelly creates more stoner comedies like this one.

4. This is the End (2013)

It’s the apocalypse, and a group of celebrities has to band together to survive. This is the End features a few big Hollywood stoner names, including Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill, and Rihanna. Fans of the Backstreet Boys should also enjoy an appearance from the band.

Seth Rogen, who created his own cannabis line, wrote and directed This is the End with Evan Goldberg. The famous filmmaking pair have also made several other weed movies worth checking out, including Pineapple Express and Superbad.

5. Team America: World Police (2004)

South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are well-known for scattering weed references throughout their shows. In 2004, they paired up to make the controversial film Team America: World Police. It offended many people but left far more laughing until their eyes welled up.

The movie centers around the bizarre adventures of a counter-terrorist police force. It used marionettes and miniature effects to deliver a fun-filled adult comedy similar to South Park. The film also parodied many famous people as puppets.

6. Paul (2011)

Have you ever wanted to meet a weed-loving alien? Introducing Paul. The titular character, voiced by Seth Rogen, employs the help of two sci-fi-loving British fanboys to try to escape Earth. They go on a cross-country adventure filled with film references and stoner humor.

Paul is one of those movies to watch high if you love sci-fi, aliens, and marijuana. The lovable, foul-mouthed main character makes viewers wish they had a pothead extraterrestrial best friend. Plus, there are many edge-of-your-seat moments and an appearance from Sigourney Weaver.

Notable Mention:

If you’re a fan of this film, you might enjoy watching Argyle from Stranger Things Season 4. The pot-loving pizza-making character joins the main crew to face off against otherworldly creatures. The series has gained immense popularity among sci-fi fans and stoners worldwide.

7. Dazed and Confused (1993)

Sometimes it’s fun to revisit high school. Dazed and Confused perfectly captures the spirit of coming-of-age teens in 1970s America. The film is lovable even if you didn’t grow up in the era. It’s filled with copious amounts of weed, rocking music, and crazy youthful shenanigans.

Dazed and Confused remains one of the highest-rated stoner movies of all time. Matthew McConaughey and Milla Jovovich carry the film, and it’s guaranteed to make you laugh, smile, and tear up with joy.

In the words of one of the Dazed and Confused characters, Cynthia, “If we’re all going to die anyway, shouldn’t we enjoy ourselves now?” Invite your friends, light up that joint, grab snacks, and enjoy the fun and nostalgia of your favorite stoner film.
