MUELLER IS COOLER IN UP-CLOSE CABARET
The Wallis in Beverly Hills lays claim to being the place to see and be seen on Friday June 16 at The Wallis in Beverly Hills, as one of Broadway’s brightest stars, Jessie Mueller, headlines a one-night-only special concert event. This superstar-sized evening of incredible music and intimate, hilarious, behind-the-scenes stories will be hosted and music directed by Sirius XM Radio star Seth Rudetsky, whom the New York Times dubbed “The Mayor of Broadway.” The gregarious, giving, gadfly Rudetsky is a pro at uplifting, charming, funny and down-to-earth impromptu cabarets accompanying Broadway greats — extemporaneously chatting it up with they of the gargantuan personalities and sublime powerhouse voices. His most recent visit to The Wallis with Broadway star Lillias White was easily one of the most surprising and entertaining nights I’ve had all year.
Mueller is a chameleon blessed with vocal chops that she can mold around any part: She can belt, do high soprano, and pop — whatever the role calls for. What will be so fantastic about The Wallis event is that you get to see Mueller display her versatility all in one night.
Mueller won the Tony Award for her starring role as Carole King in Beautiful-The Carole King Musical, and is a two-time Tony-nominated star of Carousel and composer-lyricist Sara Bareilles’ hit musical Waitress. Most recently I saw her on Broadway in Tracy Lett’s new play The Minutes. She received a Tony nomination and Drama Desk Award for her performance as Julie Jordan in the revival of Carousel opposite Joshua Henry and Renee Fleming. Other major Broadway credits include Nice Work If You Can Get It, The Mystery Of Edwin Drood (Drama Desk nomination), and her Broadway debut as Melinda in On A Clear Day You Can See Forever opposite Harry Connick, Jr.
