The Black Demon 2 has been officially announced, following the monumental streaming success it experienced in 2023. Prime Video has said that the movie experienced such popularity that producers have been actively discussing a sequel ever since. The new movie is set to star Jack Kesy, who is taking over from Josh Lucas and Julio Cesar Cedillo. Stunt coordinator Ben Hernandez Bray will be sitting in the director’s chair.

The Enduring Popularity of Deep Sea Movies

It’s not surprising to see that The Black Demon is getting a sequel. This is especially the case when you take into account the historic success of shark movies. Ever since Jaws premiered in 1975, they have experienced a huge surge in popularity. Jaws itself had three sequels, and since then, numerous other movies have come out, including Deep Blue Sea and The Meg.

Even in gaming, we are seeing a rise in deep-sea movies, with more titles coming out as the years go by. Maneater, for example, allows you to play as a shark, putting a new spin on the format. Games like The Angler also allow you to pick up a rod and fish for a range of fish in different bodies of water, with Fishing Planet also experiencing a huge level of success. The allure of the deep sea has also translated to iGaming. In fact, when you look at the top 10 UK slots, you will notice that two of them are fishing games. You have Big Bass Bonanza and Big Bass Splash, which contain fishing-themed graphics on the reels, with theme-related multipliers. This shows that our fascination with the deep isn’t just limited to sharks, and that there is still plenty more to explore in numerous fun and exciting formats. With people having so much interest in the ocean as of late, it’s exciting to see big production companies invest in it, especially given their success in the past.

The Sequel is going to have a Whole New Story

The sequel is going to follow Jerry Simms, who is a DEA agent. He’s going to be teaming up with Chato, his cellmate, in a maximum security prison. The prison is in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, with their aim to try and dismantle a big operation run by the crime boss Diego Nunez. Their mission quickly takes a turn for the worse when the notorious Black Demon rips through the prison, which is sitting on top of a desalination plant. Not only does this pollute the ocean. It means that Diego has to find a way to unleash his own sea predators to try and take down the huge beast. What follows is a clash of monsters that results in an epic battle that will surely top almost any underwater movie that has been filmed.

Although this movie promises a lot, there’s a good chance it will deliver, especially when you look at the success of the first movie and the strong cast behind this one. The team is determined to do the movie justice, making it an exciting development for fans of the original release.
