Cabaret Review: CHRISTMAS MAMMARIES (Billy L’Amour at the Palm Springs Cultural Center)

Billy L’Amour just showed everyone how it’s done
If you weren’t at the Palm Springs Cultural Center this past Sunday, you seriously missed out.
The second Billy L’Amour entered from the back of the house, the room was hers. Period. There was no “warming up” the crowd or easing into the set—she just clocked the room, took the stage, and kept us obsessed for the full 90 minutes of her new show, Christmas Mammaries.
We’ve all seen those holiday drag shows that feel like they were thrown together at the last minute with a cheap Santa hat and a few raunchy one-liners. This is not that. Christmas Mammaries is tight and intentional with a lot of love and joy. Billy knows exactly when to lean into the comedy and when to pull back, which is a level of confidence you only see from the best.
The show kicks off with “It’s a Fabulous Christmas,” and from there, it’s just a gleeful tear through holiday chaos. Her timing is lethal—especially when she’s flipping the script on classics, like her “You’re a Ho, You’re a Ho, You’re a Ho” (shoutout to Sherry Vine for those lyrics) or her own wicked spin on “It’s the Most Horrible Time of the Year.”
One of the coolest parts of the night was how she integrated her “friends.” The show is punctuated by these hilarious video moments and surprise calls that keep the energy high. We got a video from the legendary Kate Pierson of The B-52’s, a call from Morgan Fairchild, and even a “video call” from Barbra (shoutout to Eric Seppala) that had the room in stitches.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty of the outrageous stuff like “Pretty Legs, GREAT BIG KNOCKERS” and “All I Want for Christmas Is Shoes” were absolutely hilarious, but it’s the heart underneath it all that makes the night work. When she slows things down for “Grown-Up Christmas List” or “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” the whole vibe changes. People leaned in and maybe even shed a tear.
By the time she got to “Once Before I Go” for the finale, it was quiet and beautiful. It takes a lot of guts for a performer to trust an audience enough not to overplay a moment like that.
The whole production (co-written and directed by Robert Johanson) is totally polished. Nothing drags, nothing feels like filler, and every beat—from the “Santa Baby” sass to the heartfelt calls from Mom and Nonna belongs.
Honestly, Billy L’Amour is just at the top of her game right now. She’s fearless, filthy, festive, and weirdly tender all at once. It was a reminder of what great drag looks like when it’s handled by a total pro.
Unfortunately, the show only had two performances this past Sunday December 21, but you can catch Billy L’Amour every Thursday when she resumes her residency at The Velvet Rope Hotel on January 8, 2026. You can get those tickets at Eventbrite.
