ARTURO SANDOVAL’S BRAND NEW CONCERT
AVAILABLE FROM THE BROAD STAGE

He moves easily across many varieties of jazz and instruments — using his trumpet to produce a fiery assortment of resonances, interchangeably stately, amusing and starry-eyed. The mighty, vibrant, effervescent Cuban trumpet player, big band leader, and composer Arturo Sandoval — a protégé of Dizzy Gillespie — is such a hot commodity globally that L.A. is lucky to have him residing here.

His Latin Big Band — with actor Andy Garcia on bongos — was handily the most exciting, audience-rousing event at the 2017 Playboy Jazz Festival; he blew me away with the rawest, inventive scat I’ve heard in years at the Ford Amphitheatre’s salute to Ella’s 100th birthday; and coming up Sandoval can be seen performing an intimate, wide-ranging set recorded this month for The Broad Stage in Santa Monica. Available on demand December 5 to 13, 2020, tickets are free to Broad Members and only 10 bucks for non-members. Sandoval and his exemplary band — Will Brahm (guitar), Ricardo Pasillas (percussion), Johnny Friday (drums), John Belazaguy (bass), Max Haymer (piano) — perform 60 minutes of original compositions and inspired covers in HD. Believe me, he’ll have you grooving. And remember, it is available on-demand for one week only.
