EVEN MORE BEAUTIFUL ON THE BIG SCREEN

Disney animators Andreas Deja and Floyd Norman will participate in a live Q&A at El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood before their Sleeping Beauty screening on April 15, 2022 at 7pm; Ted Thomas, the son of legendary Disney animator Frank Thomas will moderate the session. The film’s original prop storybook from the Walt Disney Archives will also be on display at the event for guests to see. The picture screens through April 17 at El Capitan; on May 21 at The Academy Museum (ticket info below).

Sleeping Beauty was voted by followers on El Cap’s Instagram as the top movie they’d like to see back on the big screen. Why see it on the big screen? Walt Disney’s long-in-development adaptation of the Charles Perrault fairy tale was the first animated film to be shot in widescreen Super Technirama 70, with a lush visual style which evoked both art deco and medieval imagery. What better way to see those gorgeous Eyvind Earle backgrounds than in 70mm?

About Disney’s Sleeping Beauty: After a beautiful princess, Aurora, is born in to royalty everyone gathers to exchange gifts. Everything is perfectly fine until an unwanted guest appears, Maleficent. Maleficent casts a spell on the young princess and announces that she will die by pricking her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel on the evening of her 16th birthday. Fortunately, one of the good fairies, Merryweather, changes the spell so Aurora will fall asleep, and that the only way to wake her from her sleep is true love’s kiss. Rated G. About The El Capitan Theatre: The El Capitan Theatre is an exclusive first-run movie theatre equipped with state-of-the-art technology, operated by The Walt Disney Studios.
