YOUR GOLDEN TICKET TO HIGH ADVENTURE
…AND HIGH TEA

What could entice a typical New Yorker to get up fairly early on a Saturday or Sunday morning and make the trip to a narrow side street in the Lower East Side? The answer to this question is simple: The Order of the Golden Scribe, a magnificent food-based escape game/immersive experience designed by the team at Patchwork Adventures: Shuai Chen (Creator/Producer) and Arlo Howard (Director/Writer).

More precisely this is an initiation tea in which future members of a mythical order take the oath, “From many pens, one vision, one story,” before they are allowed to wear the order’s pin. But to prove themselves (and also to eat those delicious tidbits – finger sandwiches, scones and desserts, accompanied, of course, by a variety of teas), the guests, working with others at their table, must solve a series of puzzles by following some pretty obscure and elegantly presented clues.

The instructions are delivered by members of the cast, dressed in outfits that might make you wonder whether they’re going to a karate class or joining a monastery. The ensemble also doubles as servers, who willingly help the guests when they are stumped.

But that’s not all. Something else is afoot. One guest at each table is asked to attend a secret meeting of an underground adversarial group (which is perfect, because we actually are underground in Caveat, a theater located deep under Clinton Street). During the meeting, these emissaries learn that the order is not as innocent as one might think.

Although the scribes say they merely record history, they are secretly trying to alter history for their own nefarious reasons. We never learn what those reasons are. But really, who cares? They are planning an uprising, and they are asking for help.

If you like puzzles, if you like tasty food, if you like making new friends, or if you’d just like to experience something zany and different, The Order of the Golden Scribe is an adventure you won’t want to miss.
