The cross-country tour is ready
to win over a whole new crowd

When Mystic Pizza played La Mirada Theatre in 2024, Stage and Cinema found it charming, energetic, and heavy on laughs, buoyed by a terrific trio of leading ladies and a soundtrack packed with irresistible ’80s and ’90s hits. OK, it’s a jukebox musical, but in the ever-evolving landscape of film-to-stage musical adaptations, this entrant emerges as a charming addition—the production serves up more than enough heart and nostalgia to satisfy. Now the musical is heading out on tour with a brand-new cast ready to bring that same mix of friendship, romance, and coming-of-age charm to theaters across the country.

Big League Productions has announced that 2022 Jimmy Awards winner Kendall Skye Beccera will star as Kat, joined by Chloë Lezotte as Daisy and Lexxi B Frilles as JoJo. Directed and choreographed by Jennifer Werner, Mystic Pizza follows three young women working at a small-town Connecticut pizza parlor as they navigate love, family expectations, career dreams, and the uncertain path to adulthood. Along the way, they sing their way through a score featuring familiar favorites including “Hit Me With Your Best Shot,” “Hold On,” “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” and “Manic Monday.”

Based on the beloved 1988 MGM film that helped launch Julia Roberts to stardom, the musical features a book by Sandy Rustin and music supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations by Carmel Dean. The national tour begins September 26 in Elmira, New York, before making stops in cities across the country. If this new company can capture the chemistry, humor, and warmth that made the La Mirada production such an enjoyable evening, audiences everywhere may find themselves hungry for another slice.
